Products and Tips to Look Younger

So many of our clients have been asking us to give tips on looking more youthful, easier makeup looks, quicker makeup looks, etc. I have searched high and low for the best products to help simplify your makeup, and make your features look younger at the same time. This post is coming just in time for this week's special, 30 minute makeup lessons for $30.00. So if you liked this post, but feel like you need more personal one-on-one time to help practice the look, it is a great way to supplement the post! So on to the makeup!

1. Anti-Aging Primer

It is absolutely essential to wear a primer at any age, but especially once our skin begins to age. As the skin begins to age, you begin to lose moisture so your primer acts as a barrier between the skin and the makeup so your skin doesn't absorb all of your foundation. Most women complain to me about their makeup wearing off throughout the day, and primer can really help fix this issue!

I really recommend this Anti-Aging primer from Cover FX. The reason that I recommend this primer is because of it's skin care benefits included in the primer. It is formulated with peptides and vitamins to give your skin further help underneath your makeup. [Primer linked]

2. Liquid Foundation

Another essential is liquid foundation, again the reason being is because powder can actually tend to make the skin look worse if you have dry skin, aging skin, etc. The liquid will bring back a dewy and glowing look to dull skin. Powder does little to make the skin look younger, I understand not wanting to wear a ton of makeup. But if you have the correct foundation it will not look too thick. You also need to be looking at the coverage type. If you don't want a lot of face makeup, purchase a foundation that has a sheer coverage. And vice versa if you want more coverage.

I have always loved the Chanel foundations because of how nice they look on the skin. I prefer a foundation that has a luminous finish, but if you like more of a matte look that is okay as well (Perfection Lumiere Velvet is a matte foundation). Dewy skin is commonly associated with youth, that is why I usually recommend the Les Beiges healthy glow foundation. It has buildable coverage, feels and looks great on the skin, and makes the foundation look airbrushed. [Les Beiges linked]

3. Double Duty Concealer

Something else I hear most often from clients is that they have dark circles under the eyes that bother them. I think some of the problem stems from not knowing how to conceal them properly. Using a concealer might not be enough. A corrector with a concealer is the best way to help hide those dark circles.

I have tried a lot of different things, and I usually recommend the Becca Under Eye Brightening Corrector. However, I have recently tried the Bye Bye Under Eye from It Cosmetics and I really liked it. It is a full coverage concealer, so a little goes a long way! Another great benefit is that it is waterproof so it won't run throughout the day, and it is also creaseless. It also has anti-aging benefits in the product to help hydrate the under eye area and eliminate the look of darkness. [Concealer linked]

4. Secret Brightening Powder

I find that even if concealers claim to be creaseless, I still need to set mine because I don't want ANY creasing. Using a powder that was created for the eye area will help any powder from settling into fine lines or wrinkles around the eyes. I have found that using my favorite translucent powder can be too much for women with wrinkles around the eyes.

I have been using the Secret Brightening Powder from Laura Mercier on clients and they absolutely love it. I would have to agree that it really does look natural, not to mention it also helps brighten up under the eyes even further. The powder is so finely milled that it feels light on the skin and really does a nice job making the area look soft and smooth. [Powder linked]

5. Cream Blush

I really like cream blush, and not just during the summer time. I think it almost looks better in the winter when our skin is dry, because this give the cheeks a nice boost of color while still looking glowy and radiant. You can apply the cream blush with your fingertips and blend it into the skin for more of a natural look with a beauty blender.

One of my favorites is the shade Have A Lovely Day! from MAC. It isn't too bright so it still looks like a natural flush on the skin. You can always put the cream color on and once it looks how you want, you can set it with your loose powder so it doesn't move throughout the day.

6. Eyeshadow Primer

The key to flawless eyeshadow every time is primer. This step is SO important for your eyeshadow. I don't think I can stress it enough. I typically go for a primer that is full coverage on the eyes because it can be worn alone on days when you are in a hurry. I also like full coverage to cover up any discoloration or veins on the eyelid.

My favorite pick is the MAC Paint Pot in the shade Painterly. MAC has a few different shades in their paint pots, but this one I find is really universal. I love wearing this by itself or with just one other eyeshadow color for a natural look. This product can really help you simplify your makeup routine. [Paint pot linked]

7. Cream Shadow

I know I have been recommending a lot of cream products, but it is typically because I feel that when they are used correctly, they last longer. I also think that cream eyeshadows look great on the eyes because they give the eyes a nice shimmer without too much glitter. Too much glitter can settle into the folds of the eyelids and make them look deeper.

I really like the caviar sticks from Laura Mercier, but I picked this NARS one up the other day at Sephora and love it too! It has a soft, metallic look to it without being too much. I also think that these are so easy to apply because you can apply them all over the lid space much like you would with an eyeliner. [Shadow stick linked]

8. Highlighter

Highlighter has been such a huge trend this year, but with skin that isn't as young as it once was it can sometimes look overdone. I am a big fan of highlighters that pack a strong punch, but I know that they aren't always as flattering on some of my clients. I think that finding a highlighter with a soft focus glow is much better for mature skin.

Some of my favorite highlighters are the Shimmering Skin Perfectors from Becca Cosmetics. This one in Moonstone applies a nice glow without the look of too much glitter. Highlighting the cheekbones, above the brow, and right under the arch of the brow are great areas to highlight if you want to give the face a subtle lift. [Highlight linked]

9. Inner Rim Brightener

I don't usually put liner in my waterline, but if I do it is a nude or white colored one to really open up the eye. It is important to find one that is waterproof so it doesn't budge throughout the day. I also really like ones that you don't have to sharpen.

This one is from Smashbox and it is in the shade Bare. It is waterproof and self sharpening, two major pluses. Another good trick is to outline your lips with this and then blend it into the skin with a beauty blender. This really prevents your lip products from bleeding outside of your lip line because of the waxy consistency of the product. [Liner linked]

10. Matte Lipstick

Matte lipsticks have been another huge trend from this year. I also really like them because usually they are long lasting and you do not have to reapply as often as you would a lipstick or a lip gloss. Sometimes it is hard to find a liquid lipstick formula that isn't too drying on the lips and you must always make sure that your lips are hydrated if you are going to wear a liquid lipstick.

I bought this duo from Ulta recently because I have been dying to try the Bare Minerals Gen Nude collection. This duo came with a Gen Nude matte color and a gloss so it was a pretty big way to catch my eye as I have not tried either and this seemed to be the way to do it. The Gen Nude shade was the color BO$$. I love the way that these feel on the lips because they still feel moisturizing but stay for a long time. I also love the lip liners from MAC, not necessary but sometimes people feel the need for both. [Gen Nude, BO$$, linked]
