Makeup Q & A

I get so many questions related to makeup each day. My friend, Morgan, suggested I compile a short list and do a Q&A on my blog about it and I thought it was an amazing idea. So props to Morgan! Let's get into the questions! *Side Note!* When I say that a product is linked, and there is a picture with it, click the picture and it will take you to the site. If there is not picture, the link is directly in the brackets!

1. Does primer really make a difference?

In my experience, primer really does make a difference. You need a barrier between the skin and foundation. Think of it this way, if your skin is dry and you don't use a primer, your skin will end up absorbing the foundation or your foundation will look patchy. Same goes for if you have oily skin, you need that barrier in between to keep your foundation from breaking up and separating on the skin. It also acts as a medium to help your makeup stick. It is going to act as the makeup product that helps bind your makeup to the skin.

2. What is the right order to put on your face makeup?

1. Skin care products. 2. Primer. 3. Foundation. 4. Concealer. 5. Powder. The reason for this order is because you want to apply all of your cream products before you apply any powder. It is also necessary to apply foundation before concealer because you then will use less concealer. Think of your foundation as a way to help color correct before you do any more because your foundation should give you some coverage and the concealer will just give you more where you need/want it.

3. What kind of brow products work best?

This is all dependent on what you are wanting to achieve with a brow look. I recommend brow powder for people with fuller brows who are just needing to fill in sparse areas. For someone who is looking to add more shape, more fullness, or create new brow hairs all together, I suggest a pomade or a pencil. I swear by the Anastasia Beverly Hills products, and think they work the absolute best.

4. What are 5 products you can't live without?

I can't go without the Benefit Roller Lash mascara, it is easily the BEST mascara I have tried. I also am obsessed with the Maybelline Fit Me concealers. They are such a great price point and give a medium coverage. I also love the Maybelline Fit Me Matte and Poreless foundation, it is one of the best foundations that I have tried, it gives such a nice flawless finish. I can't live without lip gloss and the Anastasia Beverly Hills ones are my favorite because they are so pigmented and truly last all day. And my fifth product would have to be the Laura Mercier translucent loose setting powder. It makes your products stay all day and really gives a nice airbrushed finish to the skin. 5. Do you have to stop wearing shimmery eyeshadow at a certain age?

This is a question that I get asked all of the time. I have many clients tell me that they have heard once they reach a certain age they should just be wearing matte eyeshadows. While matte shadows are universally flattering, shimmery shadows can help distract from the look of wrinkly eyelids. Sometimes matte shades settle into lines and do little to enhance the eye area. Shimmery shades, especially complementary colors to your eye color, can really make the eyes pop.

6. What is a good makeup primer to help your makeup last all day?

Personally I love the Makeup Forever Step 1 Smoothing Primer. I think it has a tacky feel to it once it is on the skin that really seems to help my makeup stick to it. I also like the e.l.f. mineral primer. It is only $6, and it also has a nice feeling to it. It feels silky smooth and is incredibly affordable. 7. How do I combat dry/dull skin during the winter?

One of the best products that you can put on your skin is Vitamin C. It works not only for dull skin, but it is also really great for anti-aging purposes. It can also neutralize free radicals in the skin caused by the sun and helps lighten sun damage and brown spots. Another product that is great for dry skin is hyaluronic acid. It is a product that helps your skin retain moisture and helps you get the most out of your moisturizer.

Two products I have found that are great are the Alina Skincare Hyaluronic Acid serum and the Vitamin C serum by Serumtologie. I have tried the Alina one and I think that it works great and truly helps my skin when it's dry. And while I have not tried the Serumtologie serum yet, I have read a bunch on the product and I am really excited to try it. 8. What is your favorite trend for winter?

I would definitely have to say dark lips with minimal eye makeup is my favorite trend for winter. I think a bold lip is a great accessory to any outfit.

This one by Anastasia Beverly Hills in Sad Girl is one of my favs. [Lipstick linked]

9. How do you keep makeup looking fresh all day?

I think there are two ways to do this. One would be to use a setting spray. The Urban Decay All Nighter is my absolute favorite and another would be to use a spray throughout the day to revive your makeup. MAC's Fix+ is a great option for rehydrating the skin and I know that Evian makes one as well. I have also tried that one, but prefer the MAC one. 10. What is your favorite lip product to help chapped lips?

My absolute favorite lip product is the Image skincare Ormedic Balancing Lip Enhancing Complex. Long name, amazing product! I bought this once after a facial that I received and I absolutely love it. It is really thick, which I love, and it stays on for a long time. It also really soothes my lips when they are really cracked and dry. [Lip Balm: http://amzn.to/2gDcagc]

I hope you all enjoyed this post, and hopefully some of your questions about makeup were answered. I would love to do a series on this, so if you have any questions, feel free to reach out to me and I will compile another post about them! Until next time, Katie.
